A short Glossary of Doina Types
Ca din tulnic
A special kind of doina in which the melody imitates the low pitched bugle like calls of the long alp horns called tulnic.
Ca pe lunca
A type of doina heard along the Southern Danube coast of Oltenia and Muntenia.

In the shepherd's style.
De Catanie
Songs sung as young men were conscripted into military service.
De Dragoste
Songs of longing and love, often described in Romanian as a category, de dragoste si de dor "of love and longing." These are a slightly popularized and romantic type of doina.

De of
A sub type of de pahar in which the singer uses the exclamation, "of , of..." as in a deep sighing cry. These doine are characteristically played in a slow uneven, and virtually unmeasurable rhythmic pattern.
De pahar
"Of the glass," Doinas to be sung while drinking and thinking of love. This is a category used almost exclusively by Romanian Gypsies.
Foaie Verde
The classic Romanian folk Doina which begins with the words, "Foaie Verde," green leaf, and then goes on to any number of different possible subjects.
Klezmer
Doinas as they were sung by the Jewish musicans of Moldavia and Bessarabia.
Oltului
A characteristic melodic type used in the region around the River Olt in Oltenia.
Ritual.
Doine sung at special ocasions, for example, cintecul miresei, the
song of the new bride as she leaves her parents house, cintec de masa mare,
sung at the big table for the wedding banquet and dimineata dupa nunta,
sung the day after the wedding.
