Tokyo

I only made a few trips to Tokyo, but having lived there for some years in the past, I feel that I know it well. Here are some things I saw and re-visited.

The elegant old Meiji period building that houses the Ueno Museum of Art

The interior staircase in the museum

A display of the gold kannon statues temporarily borrowed from the Sanjusangendo of Kyoto

The Asakusa Kannon temple, one of the few places in Tokyo that still looks like old Japan

Street of shops leading to the Asakusa Temple

An artist who creates miniature plaques in the temple compound of Asakusa

Tokyo is famous for the traditional senbei, dry crackers with soy sauce and nori (seaweed) on them. Here is an old shop near Asakusa

New building design, Hibiya near the Ginza

The Uguisudani station where for many years I went to a local Shinto shrine to play and study Gagaku.

Sushi, ready to go and individually wrapped in the basement food section of Matsuya Department store in Tokyo

Many types of miso (bean paste) on display in Matsuya department store.
