Osaka
Osaka is one of the biggest cities in Japan. It is the ancient commercial capital and it is also famous for is love of fine food as exemplified by the saying, "kui daore", eat until you drop.
The National museum of Ethnology, where I was a visiting professor for three months in 1999.
Japanese Garden and Bampaku Park
The Minpaku museum is set in the Bampaku park where the Osaka World Expo was held in the seventies. In one part of this park there is an immense Japanese Garden.
An anual parade through downtown Osaka which shows a cross section of Japanese culture as well as that of many visitors.
This is an open air museum of folk houses from various areas of Japan.
One of the most ancient Shinto shrines in Osaka, said to have been originally built in the time of Empress Suiko, as a protection for ship sailing to Korea for trade and cultural contact.
There are a large number of Okinawans living in the greater Osaka and Kobe area. Because of my previous research there, I continued to be connected with events in that community.
