Myanmar or Burma

I made a short trip to Myanmar or Burma in 1999. I had not been there in more than 10 years. I found things much better than before in spite of the current protests against Myanmar.

The magnificent Shweidagon Pagoda, set in the middle of the city of Rangoon. It is the site of regular pilgrimage and is crowded all day with worshippers.

One of the favorite Burmese breakfasts is mohinga, a bowl of spicy noodles cooked with a kind of catfish and stew stalk of banana. Shops such as this one run by Htin Htin Ei, have making and selling mohinga during the morning hours for years and years. It is absolutely wonderful.
