| Dominating the old section of Istanbul and close to the old Ottoman Palace, the Topkai Sarai, is Hagia Sofia. Principle place of worship of the city of Constantine under the Byzantine Empire after the capture of the city by the Ottoman forces, this beautiful example of Byzantine architecture was converted into a mosque. It was so loved by the Ottomans, that virtually every mosque in Turkey afterwards, has been modeled on the design of this one.
