The city of Istanbul is located on two sides of the Bosphorus straits, one side in Europe and the other in "Asia", as the locals like to think of it. Right at Istanbul the strait empties into the sea of Marmara and beyond to the Dardanelles and then the Mediterranean Sea. Going west from Istanbul and up the Bosphorus is a beautiful scenic waterway passing the elegant old summer houses of the Ottoman period and eventually a number of small villages like this one, before it connects into the Black Sea.
